Biography

Born in Berlin in 1964, I moved to London in 1997 and then on to Sydney in 2001. After finishing my degree in Business Administration I spent the next 11 years in a variety of positions at Deutsche Telekom in Berlin followed by 5 years in London.  While living in Europe I never got the chance to follow my creative instincts, however, moving to Sydney sparked the start of my creative journey. After 20 years in the business world it was time for me to challenge myself to a complete change of life style and dedicating myself to art. Moving to Bundaberg has allowed me to immerse myself totally into my arts practice.

Artist Statement

Having studied at the National Art School in Sydney, and become practiced in a number of disciplines, I would now describe myself as a mixed media artist who works in a variety of mediums who has been increasingly drawn towards Collage works.  My evolving style is generally based around detail, repetition and patterns with subject matter ranging from 'familiar icons and kitsch subjects' to ‘surreal and whimsical imagery’.

My main love could be described as ‘cutting and gluing’, assembling intricate collage works using a variety of materials, from “paper to sequins to fabric” and anything else in between; sewing things on to the canvas, creating texture with found or bought objects; using recycled paintings;   Nothing is out of bounds when it comes to creating my artwork.

My main historical influences have been Max Ernst, Hannah Hoch, Dali, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, and Jeff Koons, with more contemporary influences being Miriam Wosk, Tony Fitzpatrick and Fred Tomaselli and any street artist.

As my love for collage work has expanded I have been drawn to recycling my old or discarded artworks and using these as the basis of ‘new rekindled’ art, using the basic shapes and forms of the original and re-interpreting them or by adding surreal and unexpected twists metamorphosing into something new.
